About the ecofrenzy blog:

This blog is dedicated to celebrating what’s good in green.  I write about eco-innovations, social and enviro entrepreneurs, green business, events, jobs, resources and more.   I live in San Francisco, which sits at the heart of the sustainability revolution (as far as I’m aware) and I cover all that goes on here and elsewhere in the world that strikes me as noteworthy, focusing on the positive.  I want to help my readers navigate the green scene, creating an unbiased forum to share resources and information.  I write for TriplePundit, GreenBiz, JustMeans, and Green Business Innovators, and I will cross-post all that I write on external sites on ecofrenzy.

A few trends in my writing are as follows:

1) Garbage to Goods:

Garbage-to-Goods refers to the slice of the green economy I am most drawn to – this is where innovative product design coalesces with waste reduction and landfill diversion. I’m talking about making something useful out of someone else’s trash – saving the planet on two levels with one product – by reducing the flow to our big fat landfills, and by eliminating the need to extract or purchase virgin materials to create something new. I am a fan of McDonough’s Cradle to Cradle design principles, and I think this is somewhat distinct. Inevitably, the perfect product will employ both Garbage to Goods and Cradle to Cradle – be both made of trash and designed for reuse, not disposal. I appreciate both, but I want to really focus on product design through creative and resourceful dealings with trash.

2) Interview piece:

I love meeting and interviewing sustainabile business leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators, so much of my writing is based on those interviews and conversations.

3) Sustainable San Francisco:

I love to write about anything and everything that is green and happening in San Francisco. Some ideas for posts include:

  • What makes San Francisco so green
  • Ways the gov’t is ready to assist you in going green – aka freebies you never knew existed! (a separate post for indivisuals and businesses)
  • My favorite green networking events in the city
  • Coolest green projects you may not have heard of, such as the dump’s Artist in Residence program where artists are paid to make art from the city waste
  • What to do with your stuff when you don’t want it anymore

4) Guest columns:

I am constantly delighted by how many bright, inquisitive and opinionated friends and colleagues I have. I want to invite you all to consider posting on my blog. It’s a simple, low risk way to get published, get your opinion across to some segment of the online community, and get your creative juices flowing. Please get in touch with me if you are interested.

About me:

I am an aspiring sustainability aficionado and advocate living in San Francisco. I want to share what I know of green happenings with others and create a place where others can share their wisdom as well. I am not as green as I could possibly be – sometimes I forget my coffee mug or reusable tote bag, other times I don’t buy the organic fruit – but I am working on that.

I am Program Manager with Social Venture Technology Group (SVT Group), a boutique consulting firm focused on measuring, managing and communicating social and environmental impact. We work with clients who are investors, social ventures, and companies looking to grow their impact and operations to enhace their operations and improve fundraising through impact management.

    Hi Amy.

Got to your blog via the Development Crossing website. Great stuff! I specialise in tourism sector development and keen to influence the world to be eco-friendly travellers. Interested to know if you have any organisations your’e familiar with in the US that does this sort of thing?

      Hi Joseph!

Thanks for your message. My company, SVT Group, has done some work in Ecotourism. We are members of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Tourism, which is worth checking out. This is a network of all sorts of organizations that are working on ecotourism which have come together to create a set of guidelines/criteria, such as the UN Foundation, Rainforest Alliance, Conservation International, and a bunch of others. I think that would be a good place to start.

      Best of luck!
