Amie,

Good perspective on SoCAP '08. I was there as well and blogged about it under the concept of "Pathological Collaboration" at http://www.disruptiveleadership.com/2008/10/15/pathological-collaboration/.

I think the premise that the financial meltdown may be a forcing function that may make social capitalism happen. As money continues to dry up, people will be less reluctant to "donate" forcing non-profits to build sustainable businesses less dependent on fundraising.

One point you make ...

"While traditional profit-driven capitalism is failing us"

...I don't necessarily agree with. I don't think that capitalism has "failed." I think what we are seeing is a perfect storm of de-regulated financial markets allowing stupid things to happen and the US economy is too dependent on credit & debt for consumers and business.

Look what capitalism has done for China. The principles of capitalism are still valid, with of course proper oversight measures put in place to avoid externalities and moral hazards.

We'll eventually recover from this financial nightmare and hopefully a new breed of business will arise, the social enterprise.

I am glad to have found this string of links. The Ingenesist Project has specified the factors of production for an innovation economy as social capital, creative capital, and intellectual capital. We have identified 3 web applications which if applied to social networks will allow the factors of production to become tangible outside the construct of corporations. The implications are possible far more vast than has been envisioned to date.

I invite reviewers to www.ingenesist.com all comments welcome.

Thank you.

I am just sorting through the aftermath of SoCap08 and so far, I am wondering if there was a missing thread at the conference.

So far yours is the best review that I have seen.

Was there an understanding that social capital is the currency that is going to dominate the new media paradigm?

The stability of all future earnings from all corporations are exposed to these dynamics.

I would love to see you review http://socialcapitalvalueadd.com/about-scva.

I am preparing a blog post re: SoCap08 and wonder if I could include a comment from you?

Cheers,
mc
